Birth of a Passion
Under this motto the grandiose Opening Ceremony of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships St. Moritz 2017 will symbolise the start of the competitions for the world titles. It will tell the story of winter sports in spectacular images, from general winter sports to skiing in particular. The multi-media event will take its audience on a journey from the origins of water to the appearance of ice and snow and to the invention of snow sports in St. Moritz. This will be followed by a presentation of the development of skiing both as a fun activity and a high-performance sport and of the Alpine World Ski Championships as the most competitive event in the world of skiing.
With video projections, mappings and augmented reality, but also dance, show, music and light effects the Opening Ceremony will bring to life the elemental skier, towering over the Kulm Park in three dimensions and bidding welcome his successors. They will be arriving from all over the world with one deep wish in their hearts: to win a gold medal, to become a champion in St. Moritz. The event will be crowned by the entry of the nations, followed by the festive opening of the World Ski Championships.
Standing room tickets are available as of 29 October 2016, which is exactly 100 days in advance of the opening ceremony. The capacity of the square at the traditional Kulm Park is 5,000 people. Doors open 1 hour prior to the show.
