Another Swiss Gold Jubilation
The downhill start was relocated from the 'Free Fall' to the combination-start due to the light fog but the show went on. The first ‘hooray’ moment was as Patrick Küng crossed the finish line clocking the exact same time as then race leader, Kjetil Janrud from Norway.
A double-gold scenario perhaps? But no, it was then Beat Feuz’s turn and he swiftly bettered the top time by 0.39 seconds. Erik Guay and Max Franz were also fast, but did not surpass Beat Feuz’s time. Guay already has a gold medal in the Super-G and is now the event’s first double medallist.
Whilst Max Franz wins bronze for Austria, defending champion Küng and Jansrud share the lesser-desired fourth place, just 0.02 seconds shy of a podium spot.
In the medal tally, host nation Switzerland remain in the lead with two gold medals, one silver and one bronze.
