A ski party on and off the slopes

From 6 to 19 February the entire ski world will be looking to St. Moritz. The visitors to the site of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships will not only be enjoying top-notch sporting thrills but also a wealth of entertainment away from the slopes and in the village.

All 11 races end under the same Finishing Arch in Salastrains – as every athlete crosses the finish line the mood will be running high in the grandstand and in the Fan Village. This World Championships spectacle will be accompanied by the TV star Annina Campell and the Rapper Knackeboul: they are the witty and charming presenters in the stadium. Both are the face and the voice of the World Ski Championships, supported by the expert race presenters Christian Graf, Michael Sokoll, Lukas Schweighofer and Andrea Gilli.

Emotions and impressions
On Salastrains, however, there is much more to experience than just the big emotions around the races. For once, there are the “Guugenmusiken” (= carnival bands) providing the perfect sound together with the DJs. There is the Village with hot and cold beverages and delicacies from the Engadine, the activities by sponsors and the House of Fans, whose name is programme: they all attract fans from around the globe. Don’t forget to look up at the sky when the flight formations of Patrouille Suisse and PC-7 TEAM make a thrilling appearance with their breath-taking aviation shows. And – at the end of an adventurous World Championships day - the «House of St. Moritz» in the heart of St. Moritz village is the ideal place to relax on the circular roof of the Quadrella parking.

First-class musical entertainment

Once you arrive at the village you will be greeted by a street festival with a variety of shows, cosy bars and food counters, traditional Houses of Nations and lots of great live music. The centre of the first-class music programme during the two World Championships weeks is the newly restored Kulm Park that will experience its “baptism of fire” in the glamourous opening ceremony on 6 February. The band 77 Bombay Street will launch the series of live concerts in Kulm Park. These folk-rock high flyers will be presenting the official World Championships song “Empire”, among others. They are followed by performances by the Swiss rapper Knackeboul & Friends, the band From Kid from Chur, the Swiss Pilot Combo, the ABBA cover band, The Visitors, the Rhaeto-Romansh hipp-hoppers, Liricas Analas, and YOKKO, the Swiss Music Award winner in the category “Best Talent” – bringing the music programme of World Championships dimensions to a close on 18 February.

Inscunter – the place to meet
Daily at 16:00, 17:00 and 19:00 protagonists of the Graubünden art and culture scene will be presenting themselves in the pedestrian area at the Inscunter Street Festival. Multi-faceted concerts, Swiss folklore, language lessons and readings – there is something for everyone.
And for those who are longing for a quiet moment there is the installation “Light and Transience” at the Mauritius Church in St. Moritz: a joint project of the official churches of Graubünden.

The secret boss
Should you come across a perky ibex, don’t be shy. Hug him, go along with him whatever he is doing, follow him anywhere. Because this is Moritz, our mascot and good-luck-charm. And he is the secret boss of the World Championships. But keep this just between us.
